That South Africa, Egypt, Cameroon and Nigeria will be absent from the Africa Cup of Nations coming up in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in about four weeks time marks a milestone in the history of the championship.

On that day a solid foundations for an authentic sports revolution will be laid. The capital city of Abuja will play host, for the first time in the country since independence, to a gathering of all 74 Commissioners of Sports and Education in the 36 States and the FCT and the Presidents of the 6 Sports Federations to be introduced to kick-start the academicals revival programme this year.

I am writing on a whim so small it diminishes to nonsense the more you look at it. Look up at the title of the article again. Are Champions made? Is there a process which when followed would make a person to be a champion? The answer to the last question is, perhaps, one of the great 'secrets' of life. Life has almost become an unending search for that secret formula.

Two hours after and for the next two days I went through one of the most excruciatingly painful experiences of my life. Although the operation was of the little finger on my right hand I must confess that to be cut open with a knife was not a joke at all. 6 days after, I am still carrying not just the physical evidence ( a heavily bandaged right hand that makes it look worse than it really is) but also the burden of responding to the endless inquiry and sympathy from everyone I have met since then.

I have learned in 6 days how vitally important even the littlest part of the human anatomy is.

The second leg will be even more interesting I tell you and the world can't wait!

I consider myself an extremely lucky and blessed human being. I look at every aspect of my life and my heart fills with gratitude for God's abundant and overflowing blessings. The elements have given me everything including the opportunity to be alive to be a part of history. Last Wednesday night, I called up a friend during the Arsenal/Barcelona match. I congratulated him on his birthday and told him to have a double celebration with me that we are both alive at this time in history to witness some truly monumental human developments. Think of the following:
