It is no longer news that Nigeria’s former national tennis champion, Sadiq Abdullahi, has been around the country on an exploratory visit these past two weeks. He has visited Ogun State where he worked with students of The International Sports Academy and other young players and coaches from the State Sports Council at a two-day clinic. He is currently working with players and coaches in Kaduna State where he comes from and is guest of the Kaduna State government. He will soon visit Lagos to conduct a two-day clinic at the invitation of the Lagos State government. We played a few doubles exhibition matches together whilst he was my guest and it was great fun and a great opportunity for me to share the courts with a tennis legend. I watched him work with coaches and players in Abeokuta and was convinced that Nigeria badly needs his like to start an authentic tennis revolution in Nigeria. His training methods are exciting and impactful on the players. Nigeria must get Sadiq and his group in America to help shape the immediate future of tennis. I am discussing with him already how to advance the cause and the signals I get are that we are in for some exciting times into the immediate future. Welcome home Sadiq and do not stay away for long any more!
